PERSONAL HISTORY

Rod worked as a freelance portrait photographer for a few years before he started his own home based portrait studio in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1985. This offers an indoor setting as an alternative to outdoor locations. He is committed to providing quality portraits to all his clients at an affordable price.

EDUCATION and TRAINING

Rod had an interest in photography, and began to learn the portrait business by attending seminars to learn lighting and posing techniques. He gained knowledge and experience as a photographer when he was asked by a couple of professional photographers to work for them. Rod then joined the professional photographers associations of Canada, Alberta, and America. Among the benefits of these associations is that they have regular seminars and educational materials to help each other hone and advance their skills. Over the years Rod has taken advantage of this education and continues to do so.

Rod trained in the traditional method using a film camera to create his images and still adheres to the beliefs of the masters of photographic arts. Rod is very much a people person and likes to learn about his clients through casual consultations (which are free of charge). He feels that the extra time spent interacting with his clients and listening to their expectations, enables him to create the photos that express the uniqueness of their personality. Rod likes a challenge and always finds a workable solution to any difficulties that may arise during a photography session.
